The Starling Roost

iPad Sketch

It is quite a spectacle to see a 'Starling Roost'. Large flocks perform an aerobatic display prior to dropping down to roost into trees, bushes or reeds. This happens throughout the autumn and winter time. One of the reasons they behave like this is for safety. They make it really difficult for a raptor like a Peregrine to catch one single bird as it confuses the attacker by the erratic flying around.

Through the trees.

Gulls in the field

Trying to achieve fine detail is a bit of a problem to get use to I find, as using a stylus which is not like using a thin pencil as its quite a thick and is alien to what one would normally associate with drawing.

Winter Scenes

I wonder if we will see snow this winter, hopefully not as much as the rain we did get during the summer.
